Wireless connections in general, and Wi-Fi in particular, have been evolving through milestones or standards such as 802.11g/n/ac which are now known as Wi-Fi 3,4,5. The approval of each standard has always raised expectations as well as doubts regarding the tangibility of the performance enhancement.
Eficiency vs Capacity
Wi-Fi 6 is the standard that has centered mostly in efficiency rather than capacity. It is usually compared to roads: when a road has high traffic congestion, even if the number of lanes is raised, the problem is not solved and traffic jams still occur. The same happens with Wi-Fi 6, we do not need as much capacity because most of the packages sent are small. What we need is to send packages to different users or devices at the same time.
OFDMA
OFDMA technology (orthogonal frequency-division multiple access) can divide a channel or spectrum into a number of subcarriers to transmit data to various users. Furthermore, these subcarriers can be grouped according to the capacity needed by each user.
BSS Coloring
Wi-Fi 6 implements a groundbreaking technology to avoid interferences between various devices that emit in the same channel. BSS Coloring makes it possible for Access Points to not be affected, and it also prevents them from waiting another AP configured in the same channel to stop transfering data.
1024QAM
Even though it was stated from the very beginning that Wi-Fi 6 was centered in the increase of efficiency, this does not mean there is no capacity increase. 1024QAM modulation can transmit a larger quantity of bits by signal, although it is important to take into account that a high signal or intensity will be needed.
Target Wake Time
The previous DTIM system is enhanced, in order to negotiate the idle time periods between AP and WI-Fi 6 clients, making it possible for an AP to have up to 8 different periods to make sure the the transmission of various clients at the same time is not concurrent.
Wi-Fi 6 offers remarkably interesting technologies to be applied in most scenarios. All these advantages and technologies can be enjoyed with the full Ruijie’s Wi-Fi 6 Access Point range for corporate scenarios, and Reyee’sWi-Fi 6 Access Point range for SMBs.
